Sterling Airlines is based in Copenhagen and is the first Scandinavian low-cost airline with direct routes between Scandinavia, the UK and Southern Europe as well as between the Scandinavian countries. From the UK flights depart from London (Gatwick) and fly to Copenhagen and Billund. From Edinburgh Sterling flies to Billund, Copenhagen, Goteborg, Helsinki and Oslo. In 2004, Sterling flew 1,825,206 passengers between Scandinavia and other destinations in Europe. It is the stated objective of Sterling to maintain and expand its position within air services through further development of the low-fare concept. They conduct highly effective, low-cost air services based on good service to destinations that are useful for their customers, business-wise as well as for leisure.

Sterling Airlines traces its history back to 1962, when Ejlif Krogager, founder of Danish travel agency Tjæreborg (today part of MyTravel Group), started the charter airline Sterling Airways. The Sterling Airlines passenger fleet today consists of the following aircraft (at January 2006): Six Boeing 737-500s. Thirteen Boeing 737-700s and ten Boeing 737-800s.
