Transavia - Cheap Flights to Rotterdam

Transavia is a low fares airline Netherlands-based low-cost airline operating as an independent part of the Air France KLM group. Schiphol International Airport (AMS), Amsterdam is its main base while Rotterdam Airport (RTM) is its secondary hub. Transavia mainly operates scheduled and charter services to leisure destinations. From the UK, flights depart from London (Stansted) and fly to Rotterdam. At Transavia they do everything possible to reduce costs so that you can fly for the lowest possible fares. They offer low fares for a basic, no-frills service.

Passengers are not served meals or any extras on board, but this is designed to keep the flight prices low. Naturally, if passengers wish to purchase something to eat or drink on board they are free to do so. The same applies to any shopping items. Rather than being issued a ticket, passengers are issued a confirmation number and for some destinations a ticket coupon is issued. Together with a valid passport or identity card, this is all that is required for check in.

The fares at Transavia flights are determined on the basis of demand and supply. Generally speaking, the earlier you book, the cheaper the fare. On each flight there are a certain number of seats available in the different price classes. When you book a Transavia flight they always look for seats at the lowest fare currently available. You can also take advantage of frequent special offersin which we reduce the fares still further.

The airline's main base is at Schiphol International Airport while hubs are also located at Rotterdam and Eindhoven airports. The airline operates scheduled flights to domestic cities and destinations across Europe as well as some seasonal charter services. The airline has a fairly lengthy history, having been initially established back in 1965 under the name Transavia Limburg. Just a year later, the name was changed to Transavia Holland and operations commenced. It was 1986 before the name Transavia Airlines was adopted and the same year when scheduled services between Amsterdam and London were started. In 1991, the 80% stake of majority shareholder Nedlloyd was sold to KLM who later in 2003 acquired the remaining 20%.

The airline has a fleet made up exclusively of Boeings, comprising 10 Boeing B737-700s and 22 Boeing B737-800s which are capable of seating 149 and 189 passengers respectively. The aircraft are designed for short and medium haul flights which fit in perfectly with the airline's current network. On board with Transavia there are no complimentary meals or beverages; however, both can be purchased from an a la carte menu which includes both soft and alcoholic drinks, sandwiches and snacks. An on board shopping service is also available offering jewellery, sunglasses, watches, accessories, fragrances, cosmetics, toys and confectionery.

Wheelchair bound passengers and those with other mobility issues are welcomed by Transavia, with assistance provided in boarding and disembarking from the aircraft. Passengers with special requirements should book their flights by telephone in order to specify to call centre representatives the nature of their needs.
